MFC is a cornerstone of the Teesside community and aims to provide opportunities for the youngsters of the region through our Academy system.
The Academy is based at our Rockliffe Park training complex. MFC is recognised as a club with the development of young players as an integral part of its DNA. The club is one of 24 Category 1 Academy status clubs in the country and we have had over 100 graduates who have played for our first team.
Between 1998 and 2009 the club enjoyed the most successful period in its history. This included winning the Football League Cup, reaching the UEFA Cup final and seeing the Riverside Stadium used for international football. At the same time 76 Academy graduates made at least one senior appearance for the club. 42 were youth internationals and 5 senior internationals including Stewart Downing, capped 35 times for England and Scotland Captain James Morrison.
Recent seasons have seen success at youth level, in the 2014/15 season our U21 team won two cups and promotion and our U18 team won two leagues and qualified for the UEFA Youth League for the first time in the club’s history while our U14 side were Premier League Cup winners. In 2019 the U18 were Premier League Cup Finalists, and in 2021 our U17s reached the PL Cup final.
