We were saddened to learn of the passing of former Boro coach John Coddington.
Born in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, John was a centre-half in his playing days and made more than 300 appearances in 14 years with Huddersfield Town, also later turning out for Blackburn Rovers and Stockport County.
Calling time on his playing career in 1973, he coached with Bradford City before joining the Boro set-up, where he worked with the likes of John Neal, Bobby Murdoch and Malcolm Allison, and had a spell as assistant to Jack Charlton. He is pictured below in Boro's team photo from 1980, second from right in the middle row alongside Boro stalwart Harold Shepherdson.
John settled in the area, and was for a time landlord of the Ship Inn pub in Eston. Grandson Luke Coddington, a goalkeeper, came through Boro's Academy and had a brief career in the lower leagues before retiring due to injury.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends after John's passing at the age of 85.
