Boro Under-17s booked a spot in the semi-finals of the Premier League Cup thanks to a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

A thumping free-kick from captain Luke Woolston was the difference between the two sides though Boro could have extended our superiority in the second half.

Minutes after the re-start, Ash McCarthy rattled the post with a vicious left-footed effort while Woolston saw a second dead ball flash over the crossbar.

McCarthy was then sent sprawling to the turf following a rash challenge from last man Louis Jackson, who was fortunate to only see a yellow card from referee Isaac Stephenson.

AJ Bridge stepped up to bend the resulting free-kick narrowly wide before Stephenson blew for full-time.

Boro U17s will face the winner of Nottingham Forest’s home clash against Stoke City in the last four.
