It's eight years ago since we finished fourth in the Sky Bet Championship and hit the road for the first leg of the play-off semi-finals.

Back in 2015, Aitor Karanka's side made the trip to Brentford on a Friday evening for the first of two crunch meetings, and it was the Teessiders who left West London in celebratory mood.

Jelle Vossen had given Boro the lead against the Bees midway through the first half before Andre Gray drew the hosts level.

The first leg was settled in dramatic fashion, though, when Boro substitute Fernando Amorebieta grabbed an injury time winner.

A delighted Karanka said: "It's very important because you know it's always important to win the games, especially away.

"We haven't done anything yet because Brentford are a very good team.

"They had chances, especially from their set-pieces, so we have to prepare very well at the Riverside and we have to work with the same intensity."

Boro took a 2-1 advantage into the Riverside second leg the following week, and Karanka's side romped to a 3-0 win that night to secure a 5-1 success overall.
