Bio
Born in Bedale, North Yorkshire, Josh joined Boro from North-east neighbours Sunderland at Under-16 level.
He made his debut for our U18 side during the 2018/19 season, before signing on as a scholar the following campaign.
After penning his first professional deal in January 2021, he bagged his first goal for the Under-23 side in a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.
Josh was called up to the first-team by Neil Warnock towards the back end of the behind-closed-doors 2020/21 season while continuing his commitment to the Academy side, and he netted a hat-trick in a 5-2 Premier League Cup semi-final win over Blackburn Rovers.
After clocking up double figures for goals at the Under-18 age category, he was handed his first appearance for the club in a 2-1 win at Rotherham and his home debut, three days later, was marked with a goal in a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Josh made his first start for the club in the Carabao Cup against Blackpool in August 2021 and scored his first goal in front of a crowd at the Riverside against Peterborough in October 2021.
The forward signed a new extended contract in January 2022, taking him up to 2025 with an option to extend.
Two months later, Josh sealed Boro’s spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a memorable late strike to knock out Tottenham Hotspur at a packed-out Riverside. The goal, which he hammered past Hugo Lloris in extra-time, was voted Boro’s best moment of 2022.
Josh spent the 2022/23 season gaining regular first-team football at League One Bristol Rovers, recording 10 goals in his 35 league appearances.
After returning from loan, Josh was rewarded with a four-year contract which will see him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.
The youngster made 25 appearances in all competitions in the 2023/24 campaign.
Josh scored five goals in the Championship, with the striker netting a brace in a six-goal thriller away at Plymouth Argyle.
