Born in Telford shortly after the turn of the millennium, Ryan progressed through the Wolves Academy and was named Academy Player of the Year in 2017/18.
After winning the award, Ryan was included on the first-team pre-season tour as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men headed to Switzerland following their promotion to the Premier League.
Also signing a new deal at Molineux, he was sent out on a month’s loan to hometown club AFC Telford in the National League North under coach Rob Edwards, scoring in home and away wins over Spennymoor Town.
He made his first-team debut at Wolves in January 2019, starting in a 2-2 FA Cup draw at Shrewsbury Town.
Ryan then returned to Shropshire on loan in July 2019, turning out 25 times for Shrewsbury. He also won four caps for England U20s that year, making his debut against the Netherlands at New Meadow of all places.
He clocked up 20 appearances on loan at Coventry City during the first part of the 2020/21 season before making 23 appearances for Rotherham United, scoring on his debut in a 3-0 win at the Riverside.
In 2021/22 he made up another 33 Championship appearances with loan spells at Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers, registering 10 assists as the division's most productive wing-back.
Ryan joined Boro on a season-long loan in June 2022 and was an integral part of the side which reached the Championship play-offs, registering 11 assists in 48 appearances.
In the summer of 2023 the left-back joined newly-promoted Premier League side Luton Town. He made 14 appearances for the Hatters.
A loan move to Hull City followed in January 2024 and that deal later became permanent, before he rejoined Boro on loan in January 2025.
