Bio
Hailing from Warrington, Tommy joined the Tranmere Rovers academy at the age of seven after he was scouted when playing in a local summer tournament.
He spent four years in the youth ranks at Prenton Park before switching to Manchester City’s academy at the age of 11 but a series of substantial injuries severely hampered his progress.
After graduating from the YTS programme and penning his first professional contract, Tommy broke his leg playing against Bolton Wanderers in 2010 and was subsequently ruled out of action for 12 months.
And when he did eventually return, persistent ankle ligament damage prevented him from gaining a successful run in the side.
Upon release from Man City, Tommy joined non-league outfit Helsby, helping them achieve promotion to the West Cheshire League Division Two.
Tommy joined Huddersfield Town’s under-21 team in 2012 before being promoted to the first-team set-up the following year.
Enjoying six years at the John Smith’s Stadium, Tommy was part of the Terriers side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2017 and he was made club captain for their first appearance in the top flight for 45 years.
He clocked up 200 appearances for Huddersfield before making the switch to Stoke City in the summer of 2019. He was a virtual ever-present for the Potters before his contract expired and he joined Boro.
Tommy became a mainstay of our side under Michael Carrick, and in February 2023 extended his contract with the club for a further two years.
