Rob Edwards took plenty of positives from Boro's first domestic outing of pre-season.
The Teessiders raced into a 3-0 half-time lead at Mansfield with goals from Dael Fry, Tommy Conway and Morgan Whittaker.
The hosts fought back into the second half as the game ended all-square, but head coach Edwards saw more than enough for enthusement as fans caught a glimpse of his side for the first time.
