Chuba Akpom scored a stoppage time winner as PAOK began the end-of-season play-offs with a 1-0 victory over Giannina.

The Thessaloniki club, who secured a priceless first leg lead over Belgian side Gent in the last 16 of the Europa Conference League in midweek, followed up with a domestic win on Sunday as Akpom stepped off the bench to head home a last-gasp decider.

Connor Malley made his full debut for Gateshead, who remain at the top of the National League North thanks to a 4-2 win over Gloucester City.

Djed Spence was in action for Nottingham Forest in a comfortable victory over struggling Reading at the City Ground. The wing-back provided two assists, the first for Keinan Davis after just 27 seconds, towards a 4-0 hammering.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Uche Ikpeazu was a second-half substitute as Cardiff picked up a point from a goalless draw with in-form Preston North End.

In Scotland, Zach Hemming helped Kilmarnock move top of the Scottish Championship with a 3-1 win over ten-man Ayr United - who saw Markus Fjortoft, son of former Boro favourite Jan Aage, dismissed.

Sam Folarin played the last half-hour as Queen of the South were edged out by a single goal to Raith Rovers at Palmerston Park.

In League Two, Isaac Fletcher was a late substitute for Hartlepool United, who continued their good form with a draw away to Leyton Orient. Pools had come within a penalty shootout of reaching Wembley in midweek, Fletcher an unused sub as Graeme Lee’s side were beaten by Rotherham United on spot kicks in the semi-final of the Papa Johns Trophy.

Calum Kavanagh got 15 minutes under his belt as a substitute for Luke Armstrong in Harrogate Town’s 3-0 defeat to play-off chasing Bristol Rovers, while Hayden Hackney played the first half as ten-man Scunthorpe United led but were eventually beaten 3-1 by Colchester United at Glanford Park.

Josh Wells played for Lowestoft Town, who were beaten by an early goal for visiting Hednesford Town.

Dejan Stojanovic was between the spots for FC Ingolstadt, the German side rooted to the foot of 2.Bundesliga after a 3-0 loss to giants Schalke.
