Easter Monday's game has an extra significance beyond the race to win promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.
For Boro’s Matt Crooks and Huddersfield Town’s Danny Ward, it’s an opportunity to remind people of the work of the Jordan Sinnott Foundation Trust, a charity set up in memory of their friend, who sadly lost his life after a brutal assault over two years ago.
Around the ground on Monday, you will see various nods to the charity and there is a bucket collection taking place which we hope will raise well deserved funds for the cause.
Jordan was well-known within the footballing community and having played for Huddersfield Town and Halifax Town, he was playing at Matlock Town when the incident happened. A social media campaign for clubs and sporting organisations sprang up, and at his funeral there were almost 900 ‘Sinnott 25’ shirts on display.
“The family asked the football community to send Sinnott 25 shirts so they could be displayed at his funeral and then be donated to under-privileged youngsters,” explained Matt.
“Clubs and sports personalities up and down the country sent them in and more than 900 were received in the end.
“People like Steven Gerrard, Harry Maguire, Jordan Henderson and Reece James supported it.”
That proved the catalyst for the formation of the Jordan Sinnott Foundation Trust.
“A short time after the funeral I was telling my missus I wanted to do something because I didn’t want Sin to just be forgotten,” said Matt.
“We decided to set up the Foundation with the idea of representing everything he was about. Sport was his life and we thought that would be a good route to go down.
“We want to provide financial assistance and provide help through the power of sport and activities.
“Sport is a big thing in people’s lives. It doesn’t matter what background you are from, you can become anything you want to be.
“We thought if we can help people enjoy sport or be successful in it through Jordan’s name it would be fantastic. That would leave a lasting legacy fitting of a great person.”
We hope Monday's game will go some way to educating the legacy of Jordan, a man who was immensely popular and prompted his friends and family to drive forward such a valuable cause.
“If anyone wants to be a better man, a better family man, a better husband, a better dad, a better friend, they need look no further than Jordan for inspiration.
“I strive to be all those things – and his memory will forever inspire me to be the best person I can possibly be.”
