A group of our Academy players have come together as the Teesside Trailblazers to champion racial justice with young people in schools across the Teesside area.
Two impactful events will take place online - one for Primary schools and another for Secondary schools - to take action towards racial justice in their classrooms, their playgrounds, their football pitches. Schools will be joining online, with the Teesside Trailblazers dialing in from a selection of schools in-person.
The Teesside Trailblazers are using their own experience of recognising and tackling racism as a team to inspire other young people to take on racism in their school and communities.
The events will galvanise hundreds of young people across Teesside to take part and make a change towards racial justice.
Following the events, one primary school and one secondary school will have a chance to visit the Boro training ground as a result of outstanding work.
Teesside Trailblazer George Gitau said: “I am proud of our record of tackling racism. As a team, we’ve done this through sharing our experiences, speaking out and education.
"I know people look up to football players as role models and that our club is at the heart of the Teeside community. We can help make a big difference if we promote the right messages on and off the pitch.”

Teesside Trailblazers has been funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, DCMS, The Virgin Money Foundation and the #iwill campaign, which support young people’s access to high quality social action opportunities.
