On this day 27 years ago, Boro marked the last competitive game at Ayresome Park with a crucial victory.

In a day of celebration on Teesside, the curtain was brought down on 92 years of football at the historic stadium with the penultimate game of the 1994/95 league campaign.

A host of Boro legends were paraded on the pitch before kick-off, and the fan-chosen name for Boro's new home was revealed - the Riverside Stadium.

John Hendrie, Boro’s top scorer that season, opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before the visitors responded in the second half through John Taylor.

But the win was sealed when Hendrie finished Derek Whyte’s cut back - a huge result for Bryan Robson's men as they put one hand on the First Division trophy and moved a step closer to ensuring life at the Riverside began with Premier League football.
