Alan Fettis has joined the club from Manchester United as our new goalkeeping coach.
The 51-year-old former Northern Ireland international replaces Ian Bennett who departed the club at the end of last season.
Fettis, capped at all levels by his country, brings a wealth of experience having made almost 500 appearances during a playing career which took in the likes of Hull City, Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers, and York City.
He had spells coaching at both Cheltenham Town and Sunderland before Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson – and one-time Boro goalkeeper coach Eric Steele – offered him the chance to join the Old Trafford club.
He has worked at various at Manchester United where he helped develop the likes of Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone as well as several other talented youngsters. He also worked with first-teamers such as David de Gea, Edwin van der Sar and Victor Valdes on occasions.
"We're delighted go get Alan on board," said Boro boss Chris Wilder. "He has a fantastic pedigree. He was a good pro, had a good career, and was a Northern Ireland International.
"He knows the game and to be at Manchester United for all those years says it all. He's had numerous opportunities to leave there, but it's such a big club and we're delighted that he's looked at us for the next stage of his development."
