Player of the Year Jonny Howson has pledged his future to the Boro by signing a new contract.

The 34-year-old will extend his stay on Teesside by a further year after penning a one-year deal.

The Yorkshireman has made 230 appearances for Boro and 2022/23 will be his sixth season with the club. He is now the only player remaining from Garry Monk’s summer signings in 2017.

He is now a veteran of 643 career appearances, having clocked up 225 for Leeds and 188 for Norwich City.

Boro boss Chris Wilder said: “We’re delighted we’ve managed to come an agreement with Jonny. He was coming out of contract and it’s a key signing for us.”
