Get to know more about out tenth summer signing Matt Clarke…

  • Matt was born in Suffolk in September 1996.
  • He joined the Ipswich Town Academy as an Under-7 and became a scholar in 2013.
  • His first team debut came the following year in a League Cup tie at Crawley Town.
  • Matt joined Portsmouth on loan in 2015/16 and made 33 appearances for the club.
  • He joined Pompey permanently the following summer and was one of the key figures in their League Two promotion winning side, where he played alongside ex-Boro defender Christian Burgess.
  • Matt also won an EFL Tropy medal at Portsmouth.
  • After making almost 200 appearances for Pompey, Matt joined Brighton for a feee in excess of £3m in the summer of 2019.
  • He was immediately loaned to Derby County, where he spent two seasons and made 81 appearances.
  • Last term he was on loan at West Brom, where he played 33 games.
  • He was the Baggies' Player of the Season for 2021/22, an award he had also won at both Derby and Portsmouth.
  • Matt joined Boro on a three-year contract in August 2022.
