Midfielder Hayden Hackney has been rewarded for his form with a call-up to the Scotland Under-21s.
The 20-year-old Academy product has been called up for the friendly against Iceland at Fir Park later this month.
Although Redcar-born, he qualifies for Scotland through his mum, who was born in Edinburgh.
Hayden has featured in every Boro game since Chris Wilder's departure and he scored his first senior goal in the 4-1 win at Wigan Athletic last month.
Head Coach Michael Carrick has been impressed with the youngster and said: "He plays with a real maturity. I've been delighted with him.
"You wouldn't think he's only played so many games. I've loved seeing him play, and with no fuss. It just looks like he's been there a long time.
"He always wants the ball and shows for the ball, and he's positive with it."
