Boro's Academy players were put to the test in a visit from the Army on Wednesday.
Having been introduced to the Academy via our Under-12s' participation in the Premier League's Christmas Truce project, members of the 16 Medical Regiment visited Rockliffe to put on a team and leadership practical workshop to groups from Under-11 to Under-18.
The Under-18s were given a particularly gruelling test of physical drills and training, designed to take them out of their comfort zone and work together to progress, which you can see pictured below.
Lt Daniel M Wheldon said: "All the age groups worked extremely hard and gave my team maximum effort which was great to see. It was so good to see young people really pushing themselves through their own individual barriers and achieving things they did not think they could achieve."
AJ Bridge from the Under-18 group said “It was harder than all of pre-season put together... but the lads and I loved it! We all had a strong sense of satisfaction when it was complete and we had achieved our team goals."
The Academy’s Education and Safeguarding staff have introduced a number of outside-of-the-box initiatives to develop personal skills and positive relationships within the Academy groups.
