Boro's final match at Ayresome Park was on this day in 1995.
92 years of history came to an end as we waved goodbye to the famous old ground in the penultimate match of the 1994/95 season; Bryan Robson’s debut season as player-manager ending in perfect fashion as champions-elect Boro moved closer to the First Division title with a 2-1 victory over Luton Town.
After Neil Cox saw his first-half penalty saved, it was left to top scorer John Hendrie to make the breakthrough on the brink of half-time. His scooped effort lobbed Luton keeper Kelvin Davis for Boro’s opener.
The away side hit back through a John Taylor header; Hendrie, though, ensured his name would be inscribed into the history books when he rolled home Derek Whyte’s cut-back, giving Ayresome Park the best possible send-off.
