Tommy Smith has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The 30-year-old joined on a one-year deal last summer after spending pre-season training at Rockliffe.

Tommy hasn't missed a minute since Michael Carrick took over as head coach in November, and he has played an integral role in the club's rise from the depths of the Championship to third place.

"We're delighted to have Tommy on a longer contract," said Carrick.

"He's done fantastically well for us and he's an important figure for us both on the pitch and in the dressing room."

The former Huddersfield Town and Stoke City man has made 26 appearances since joining the club, taking his career total beyond the 300 mark.
