Tommy Smith called in on the Utilita Kids Cup organised by MFC Foundation on Friday.
The Boro defender visited the Foundation's Herlingshaw Centre facility in South Bank, where a total of 39 primary schools had been taking part in the football competition.
Tommy posed for photos with the teams and handed out medals to the eight group winners, who will meet again next week to compete for the right to represent MFC in the upcoming regional finals.
The Utilita Kids Cup is a national Under-11 football competition organised by the EFL. With more than 16,000 children taking part, the competition culiminates in a Wembley Stadium final in front of thousands of fans ahead of the EFL play-offs.
Tommy's visit was part of the EFL's Week of Action, which also saw Boro boss Michael Carrick launch a 'Boot Room' for local youngsters in association with MFC Foundation and the Michael Carrick Foundation.
