Hailing from Kirkby, Jamie’s professional career started with Everton where he featured in reserve team football.

He joined Leyton Orient in the summer of 2008 as a 19-year-old and went on to make almost 200 appearances during a six-year stay at Brisbane Road.

In 2014, Jamie joined Preston North End and it was from there he had loan spells at Coventry, Rochdale, Colchester United and Stevenage.

The Stevenage loan led to a permanent move in the summer of 2016 and after impressing further, he took the opportunity to join League One hopefuls Wigan the following year.

At Wigan, Jamie was a promotion-winner in 2018. He later sold his medal to help raise money for the cash-strapped club, and was club captain in 2020/21.

He made 117 appearances for Wigan during a six-year stay and penned an emotional goodbye to the club and its fans after seeking a new challenge in the summer of 2023.

Jamie signed for Boro in July and arrived with over 400 career appearances to his name.
