On the opening day of March 2022, Boro again knocked Premier League opposition out of the FA Cup as Josh Coburn's extra-time strike sealed a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

After dumping Manchester United out on penalties in their own backyard, Chris Wilder's Boro welcomed high-flying Spurs for an under-the-lights fixture at the Riverside Stadium with the north Londoners having put four past Leeds United just three days earlier.

Keen to end Spurs' pursuit of silverware, visiting boss Antonio Conte fielded a star-studded line-up. Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and January signing Dejan Kulusevski all started the Round of 16 clash, having scored one each at Elland Road, but the trio of internationals barely threatened a way past Boro's resolute backline.

In the middle of the park, Jonny Howson put in a man-of-the-match performance, easily the pick of the bunch against a side boasting a wealth of European experience. And the club captain so nearly won the match in normal time, flashing a header past the post at the end of a Marcus Tavernier corner.

Just like at Old Trafford, the game seemed destined for spot-kicks, that was until good play from Isaiah Jones and Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun found substitute Coburn with his back to goal inside the area.

Following a neat one-two with Matt Crooks, space opened up for the Academy graduate and he made no mistake in thumping the ball past Hugo Lloris, sending a packed-out Riverside roaring in jubilation.

The goal was crowned the best Boro moment of 2022 following a fan vote with more than 1,000 responses.
