Chuba Akpom's 23rd-minute goal was celebrated as Boro’s 1,000th in competitive action at the Riverside Stadium.

Our leading marksman swept home from Riley McGree's pass to open the scoring against Stoke City in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

To acknowledge the landmark achievement, we've delved into the archives to look back on Boro’s milestone goals, starting 10,073 days ago...

Goal No.1, Craig Hignett vs Chelsea, August 1995

Boro’s return to the big time was magnified by the first-ever outing at the brand new Riverside Stadium with old foes Chelsea out for revenge after defeat in the 1987/88 play-off final.
Played in front of a bumper 28,286 crowd, the highest home attendance in 14 years, Bryan Robson’s men ran out 2-0 winners as Craig Hignett bagged the first-ever goal in our new home.
Slipped in by Nick Barmby, the Boro forward hammered the ball into the top right corner for a dream start to life back in the Premier League.

Goal No.50, Juninho vs Huddersfield Town, October 1996

Boro’s 1996/97 season is fondly remembered for its League and FA Cup final appearances as well as the flair provided by attacking trio Juninho, Emerson and Fabrizio Ravanelli.
Having comfortably dispatched Hereford United 10-0 over two legs, our 50th Riverside goal was netted in the following round at home to Huddersfield Town as Robson’s side hit the Terriers for five. Samba star Juninho opened the scoring. The Sao Paulo playmaker performed a neat one-two with Mikkel Beck to open up space inside the area and find the corner - a fitting way to seal half a century at the Riverside.

Goal No.100, Craig Hignett vs Sunderland, October 1997

Boro managed to hit the prestigious Riverside ton against Sunderland with Craig Hignett again in the history books as he rounded off a 2-0 win over our north-east neighbours. Andy Campbell had prodded us ahead in the League Cup fixture before Hignett converted a Craig Harrison cross to wrap up the third-round tie and bag the 100th goal at the Riverside. His sliding effort nestled superbly in the top left corner and set the Teessiders up for another sensational run to the League Cup final.

Goal No.250, Paul Ince vs Leeds United, February 2002

Paul Ince notched the 250th goal at the Riverside Stadium as Steve McClaren’s side twice fought from behind against Leeds United. Eirik Bakke handed the visitors the lead in the 19th minute but captain Ince responded by bobbling the ball beyond Nigel Martyn to seal our 250th strike on the banks of the Tees. In the second half, Robbie Fowler’s header restored Leeds’ advantage at point-blank range, Dean Windass replying in kind two minutes from time.

Goal No.500, Afonso Alves vs Manchester City, May 2008

Claiming the biggest Premier League victory for any side since 1999, Boro ran riot on the final day of the 2007/08 campaign, putting Manchester City to the sword. Record signing Afonso Alves made it six goals in as many appearances with a hat-trick against Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side, wrapping up the scoring by bagging Boro’s eighth in the final minute of normal time and, in turn, claiming the 500th goal scored at the Riverside.

Goal No.750, Diego Fabbrini vs Wolverhampton Wanderers, September 2015

Boro cruised into the fourth round of the League Cup via a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Championship rivals Wolves with Albert Adomah scoring a brace. The Ghanaian gave us the lead on 37 minutes, after Ethan Ebanks-Landel miscontrolled in the area, and Fabbrini doubled the advantage with Boro’s 750th Riverside goal. Adomah then put the game beyond doubt with his second of the evening, finishing past ex-Boro loanee Carl Ikeme.

Goal No.999, Marcus Forss vs Reading, March 2023

Michael Carrick’s side romped to a 5-0 win against Reading earlier this month as Chuba Akpom became the first Boro forward to hit 20 in the league for over 30 years. The Championship’s leading marksman and Aaron Ramsey both bagged two in a Riverside rout with Marcus Forss delivering the final hammer blow from the spot.
