Following Sam Greenwood's spectacular set-piece at the weekend, we've delved through the archives to bring you Boro's most majestic free-kicks...
10. Franck Queudrue vs Birmingham City
Netting his only goal of the 2002/03 campaign, cult hero Queudrue curled exquisitely into the corner to settle an ill-tempered affair at the Riverside. The 1-0 victory maintained Boro's undefeated home status at the start of a promising season, in which the Teessiders peaked at third in early October.
9. Alen Boksic vs Newcastle United
Breaking the deadlock in the Tyne-Tees derby, by expertly directing Christian Karembeu's free-kick beyond Shay Given, Alen Boksic ensured a miserable St. Patrick's Day for the Magpies 'keeper with a deft set-piece on the edge of the area. The home side would respond via Carl Cort to halve the deficit but it would not be enough to stop the Teessiders banking a memorable win at St. James' Park.
8. Christian Ziege vs Derby County
The travelling Boro army were treated to an incredible Christian Ziege set-piece shortly after his summer arrival from AC Milan. The marauding left-back, who would go on to record seven goals during his one-season stint on Teesside, executed a pin-point free-kick to help Boro to successive away wins.
7. Afonso Alves vs Stoke City
Boro's record signing opened his account for the 2008/09 season with a delightful strike that clipped the underside of the crossbar, handing Boro a 1-0 lead at home to the Potters. Despite going down to 10 men, the visitors would level proceedings at the Riverside but an 85th-minute winner from Tuncay maintained our 100 per cent home record.
6. Malaury Martin vs Bristol City
An injury-time rocket from Malaury Martin gave ex-England international David James no chance in the dying seconds at Ashton Gate. The Nice-born playmaker rifled the ball into the top-right corner to clinch victory and end City's six-match winning streak.
5. Tarmo Kink vs Burnley
A brilliant brace from Boro's Estonian saw the Teessiders come from behind to win at home for the first time in over four years. Hitting a vicious equaliser from the edge of the area, Kink lined up to blast a 94th-minute winner past Brian Jensen, securing all three points.
4. Sam Greenwood vs Leicester City
League leaders Leicester had won all seven of their Championship matches away from the King Power prior to rocking up at the Riverside. That was until Sam Greenwood hit a postage-stamp set piece, seven minutes from time, to down the Foxes.
3. Grant Leadbitter vs Huddersfield Town
Captain fantastic Grant Leadbitter pummelled Boro into the lead at Huddersfield with an outrageous free-kick into the top corner - though it looked as if John Stead had rescued a point for the hosts when he converted four minutes from time. That was until Tommy Smith was adjudged to have felled Adam Reach in the box and up-stepped Boro's skipper to send Alex Smithies the wrong way, banking three precious points.
2. Fabio Rochemback vs Manchester City
Boro's eight-goal mauling of Manchester City is fondly remembered for all the right reasons. An Afonso Alves hat-trick and a brace for homegrown hero Stewart Downing were some of the standouts from the final game of the 2007/08 season - yet Rochemback's free-kick, at least 30 yards from goal, was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch.
1. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink vs Manchester City
In a game that had everything on the final day of the 2004/05 campaign, a thunderbolt of a free-kick from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink aided Boro to UEFA Cup qualification at the expense of Man City. Boro needed only a point from the contest and Hasselbaink's stunning set-piece gave the Teessiders the lead before Kiki Musampa levelled after the break. With David James venturing up-field, the hosts were handed a guilt-edged chance to steal qualification away from Boro when they were awarded a penalty in the dying embers but Mark Schwarzer's heroics secured a second term on the European stage.
