On this day a year ago, Michael Carrick joined Boro.

After a glittering playing career with Manchester United and England, it was a first permanent appointment as Head Coach for the Wallsend-born boss. Teessider Jonathan Woodgate rejoined the club as part of his staff, while Aaron Danks and fan favourite Grant Leadbitter also became part of the coaching setup.

“I’m really excited to be here and to be part of a club with such a deep history and tradition,” Carrick said at the time.

"Middlesbrough was the first professional club I played for as a nine-year old boy, so it’s a very special feeling to be back here as a head coach.

"Growing up in the north-east myself I’m fully aware of what football means to people. It’s a real privilege for me to be in this position and to feel all the passion and enthusiasm you’ve got for the game and for Boro.

"I’ll give everything to help develop the team and keep moving the club forward and make you the supporters proud."

Carrick has been true to his word so far, transforming his Boro side into one of the most exciting in the second tier, narrowly missing out on promotion last campaign after defeat to Coventry City in the play-off semi-finals.

After a busy summer of recruitment which further put his stamp on the team, the Boro boss tonight takes his side to Norwich once again rapidly rising the Sky Bet Championship table, on the back of five successive league wins, and six in all competitions.

"I love being here, working with the group of players and being at this club," the Head Coach said in a recent press conference.

"[The first year] has flown by, hopefully there's a lot more to come."
