Boro Women added a point to the season’s total with a goal-less draw against Stockport County, in front of over two thousand spectators.

Michael Mulhern named an unchanged side from the team that beat Leeds United last weekend, with Millie Bell in the line-up to mark her 100th Boro appearance.

Boro started the game with some early opportunities, the first of which came after three minutes when Eve Marshall and Ellen Turnbull linked-up on the edge of the area, with the latter eventually lifting a weak-footed shot over the crossbar.

The two forwards connected again in the 10th minute, when Turnbull’s cross found the head of Marshall, but the striker’s header went wide.

Stockport grew into the game as the first-half went on, and had a good chance 10 minutes before the break after creating space down the right-wing, and a dangerous looking cut-back towards Kenzie Bentley was intercepted and cleared by Abby Towers before the ball reached the Stockport striker.

Half-Time: Middlesbrough 0-0 Stockport County

Nine minutes after the restart, the visitors had a great opportunity to open the scoring, when a ball through the middle found Jess Gillin, but her first time effort was met by Laura Wareham, who reacted quickly to close the angle down.

Next it was Boro who played a superb ball through the middle, which substitute Jolie Donzo controlled, but her shot was met by a great save by Megan Hunter in the Stockport goal.

Donzo had another brilliant chance to give Boro the lead in the 76th minute when she met an Ellen Turnbull cross, but fired over the crossbar with a first-time effort.

Despite a few long-range attempts towards the end of the game, both ‘keepers stood strong to confirm a clean-sheet each.
