Boro Women kick off their season on Sunay with a home face-off against Cheadle Town Stingers.
The Background
Cheadle Town Stingers come into the division as North West Womens Regional League champions, winning 18 of their 20 league games last season, racking up a tally of 54 points.
After a four-year stint in the North West Women's Regional League, this is the Stingers' debut in the FAWNL Division One North.
Pre-season has been a successful one for Cheadle, winning four and drawing one of their five games, taking them into the season unbeaten.
Key Players
Like Boro, Cheadle have made six new signings in the summer, proving they can be a force to be reckoned with despite being newly promoted.
Jess Gillin has joined the Stingers from Stockport County in a great coup for Cheadle, with natural speed Jess can cause trouble for many defenders, having scored nine goals at Stockport last season and helping them on to a fifth-place finish.
As well as bringing in new faces it was key for Cheadle to keep a hold of key players from their promotion season. One of those being their top scorer, Rachel Dunlop - who scored 22 times last season for the Stingers in just 18 appearances
Adding to that goal threat is Imogen Porteous-Williams, who adds reason for teams not to rest on their laurels having scored 10 times in their previous season, being another key player in the Stingers title-winning season.
Previous Meetings
Sunday's game will be the first meeting between the two sides as both teams look to get off to a winning start in the new campaign.
