Boro's Under-21s were triumphant in their final Premier League 2 fixture of 2024 as they stylishly defeated Norwich City.

Law McCabe's superb strike gave Boro a half-time lead and after Dan Nkrumah made it two midway through the second half, maximum points appeared to be heading back to Teesside.

Norwich responded almost immediately with a goal of their own but Mark Tinkler's side quickly notched the game-clincher through Ajay Matthews.

Boro went ahead in excellent fashion just eight minutes in as McCabe fired into the top corner from outside the box.

The home team reacted well to that setback and put Boro under some pressure, with Daniel Ogwuru, Tony Springett and Adian Manning all having sights of goal.

After weathering that pressure, the visitors had an opportunity of their own as McCabe had a strike saved from distance.

Norwich had a couple of half-chances to equalise before the break but Boro retained their advantage.

Manning hit one narrowly wide for the hosts early in the second half but Boro had two openings of their own, with Sonny Finch clearing the crossbar and Nkrumah hitting one just past the post.

Matthews also saw a strike saved but the crucial second goal did go the way of Boro on 66 minutes.

Nkrumah was the scorer as his left-foot effort found the bottom corner.

It took less than two minutes for the Canaries to half the deficit, with Elliot Myles striking home.

They were not able to generate any momentum, though, as Boro restored their two-goal lead after a fast break involving George McCormick, who squared for Matthews to finish.

Brandon Forbes struck over as Norwich aimed to set up a grandstand finish but Boro held firm to seal all three points.
