Read up on the latest from Boro’s loanees.
Zach Hemming kept a tenth clean sheet of the Scottish Premiership season as St Mirren maintained their pursuit of reaching Europe for the first time since the 1980s.
Hemming played as the Saints beat St Johnstone 2-0 on Saturday, strengthening their grip on fifth place in the table and sustaining the pressure on fourth-placed Kilmarnock, one of the Boro keeper’s former loan clubs.
That was matchday 27 north of the border, with the league splitting into a top and bottom six after matchday 33. Come the end of the campaign, a top-four spot would be enough for St Mirren to claim a place in Europa Conference League qualifying for 2024/25.
Fellow goalkeepers Liam Roberts and Sol Brynn also enjoyed a winning weekend in League One.
Roberts’ Barnsley boosted their promotion hopes with a 2-1 win over second-placed Derby County, while Brynn’s Leyton Orient remain in the play-off chasing pack following a win by the same scoreline over Oxford United in sixth.
Hayden Coulson and Blackpool could also have a say in the third-tier promotion race; they remain in the hunt for the top six after an impressive 4-1 succcess over Bolton Wanderers, with Coulson playing the first half.
In the National League, Jack Stott stepped off the bench to help Gateshead secure a fourth win in a row, a 4-0 domination of ten-man Oxford City. Stott has extended his loan at Heed until the end of the season, and while league-leading Chesterfield look set to seal automatic promotion, the Tynesiders’ form will leave them confident of bagging a place in the play-offs.
At the opposite end of the table, Bryant Bilongo is enjoying his start to life with Ebbsfleet Town after two more wins saw his side further distance themselves from the drop. Bilongo featured in the 1-0 win over Woking in midweek and Saturday’s 4-1 victory away to Dorking Wanderers.
In the Northern Premier League, Fenton John returned to the Morpeth Town team with a goal as they beat FC United of Manchester 3-0.
