By Middlesbrough FC

It's two decades to the day since Boro's trophy triumph.

On February 29 2004, the club's 128-year wait for major silverware was ended with Carling Cup success in Cardiff.

Having overcome Arsenal's 'Invincibles' over a two-legged semi, Steve McClaren's Boro side were tasked with a final tie against Sam Allardyce's Bolton Wanderers.

There'd been a triple header of Wembley heartbreak for Boro in the late 1990s, but with the famous old ground now demolished to make way for a new national arena, the scene of Boro's greatest hour was instead in the Welsh capital's Millennium Stadium.

Roared on by raucous travelling support, our pursuit of glory could scarcely have got off to a better start. Joseph Desire Job prodded in the opening goal with what was then the fastest goal seen in the competition's finale, and soon after the Cameroonian won a penalty which teammate Bolo Zenden duly converted to double the advantage.

Later in the first half, a rare fumble from goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer handed Bolton a way back in as Kevin Davies' shot squirmed into the Boro net, but the Australian stopper recovered his composure to make a number of crucial saves a Boro dug deep.

The final shrill sounding of referee Mike Riley's whistle was signal for the party to start both in Cardiff and back home on Teesside, as Middlesbrough Football Club were trophy winners at last.
