After Leeds United’s play-off final defeat at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, the line-up for the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship season is complete.
Southampton beat Leeds 1-0 under the arch to book their place in next season’s Premier League alongside title winners Leicester City and runners-up Ipswich Town.
The three sides promoted from the Championship a year earlier in 2022/23; Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United, make an instant return to the division after failing to avoid the drop from the top flight.
Portsmouth come up from League One as champions, and will face Boro for the first time since 2012.
Joining them are Derby County who ended their two-season spell at that level with a second-place finish.
And Oxford United won the League One play-off final to book the final second-tier spot, and their first league matches against Boro since 1997/98. Our last league meeting was a 4-1 Boro win on the final day of that campaign to seal promotion for Bryan Robson's side. We have met once competitively since; a 3-2 FA Cup victory for Boro in February 2017.
Taking their places in League One are relegated trio Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.
There's now less than a month to go until Boro's fixture fate is revealed, at 9am on Wednesday 26 June.
