It was the hosts who started the quicker and dominated the early proceedings. With only five minutes on the clock, Spurs found the opener. Damola Ajayi drove down the right-hand side before drilling a cross towards the back post, which Yusuf Akhamrich finished well from a tight angle.

Shortly after it got better for the home side when they scored two goals in two minutes. The first came when Rio Kyerematen produced some excellent work on the edge of the area before sliding a pass to Oliver Irow, who drilled a low effort home.

A minute later, Spurs added a third. Callum Olusesi jumped on the end of a misplaced pass and finished calmly to extend their advantage.

With five minutes left to play until the end of the half, Spurs added a fourth. Akhamrich turned his man inside the area before unleashing a strike into the bottom corner to claim his second of the afternoon.

Tottenham Hotspur U21: Maguire (Krasniqi 45'), McKnight (Ashcroft 78'), Dorrington, Cassanova, King (Andiyapan 81'), Olusesi (Adewole 81'), Kyerematen, Ajayi, Hall, Akhamrich, Irow (Elliot-Parris 78')

Subs: Ashcroft, Krasniqi, Andiyapan, Elliot-Parris, Adewole

After the half-time interval, the first chance fell to Boro. Jack Stott found Hazeem Bakre on the edge of the box but he narrowly dragged his shot wide of the post.

It was Spurs though who had the ball in the net once again. Ajayi picked up the ball and curled his effort past Shea Connor to make it five for the hosts.

Stott attempted to pull one back for Boro but his long-range effort was saved well by Aaron Maguire in the Spurs net.

With 10 minutes to play, Spurs made it six. Akhamrich skipped past his man on the edge of the box before slotting home his third of the afternoon.

Mark Tinkler's side grabbed a late consolation goal with two minutes to go. Bakre converted his effort from close range into the bottom corner.

That was to be the last of the action, with Spurs taking all three points.
