Dael Fry and Marcus Forss could step up their recoveries on Friday when Boro's Under-21s take on Aston Villa at Bishop Auckland (7pm).
The duo have both rejoined the senior squad on the training pitches and Forss has stepped off the bench a couple of times for the first team.
Mark Tinkler's charges climbed off the foot of the table last time out with a first win of the season, against Stoke City, and they will be looking to build on that result against a Villa side who have won twice so far this term.
Tinkler's squad will be looking to impress with places up for grabs when Lyon U21s visit the Riverside on Wednesday (7pm) for the first game in the PL International Cup.
