The Boro first team squad formally received their Legacy Numbers this week to recognise their part in the history of the club.

When Ben Doak stepped off the bench against Preston North End last weekend he became the 1,010thplayer to pull on a Boro shirt and was the 11th man to make his debut so far this season.

Debuts so far this term…

  • 1000: Aidan Morris
  • 1001: Delano Burgzorg
  • 1002: Sol Brynn
  • 1003: George McCormick
  • 1004: Micah Hamilton
  • 1005: Tommy Conway
  • 1006: Harley Hunt
  • 1007: Neto Borges
  • 1008: Nathan Simpson
  • 1009: George Edmundson
  • 1010: Ben Doak

The longest serving player in the current squad is Dael Fry, who became #857 when he made his Boro debut at Preston on the opening day of the 2015/16 season. Club skipper Jonny Howson is the second longest-serving and he became #886 when he made his debut at Wolves in 2017.

Legacy Numbers mark the contribution of players throughout the club’s history.

Following extensive research from volunteer historians among the Boro-supporting community, an official Legacy Number has been assigned to each and every senior men’s player to feature in a competitive fixture for the club since it permanently turned professional in 1899.

This season alone, we have already seen presentations made to Juninho, Mark Proctor, Bernie Slaven, and Tony Mowbray while a number of ‘Charlton’s Champions’ of 1973/74 received their Legacy Numbers at an event in May.

Last week, the great-great grandson of one of our very first players, Robert Eglington, received the Legacy Number (#18) on behalf of the family.

The club has had numerous requests from players past and recent for Legacy Numbers.
