Two second half goals proved decisive in securing Boro Women another important victory.

Two changes of were made to the side that beat Stourbridge 4-1 in the league cup, with Laura Wareham and Emma Foster being replaced with Ruby Cook and Keria Skelton. Ruby Forster also made her way onto the bench.

It was a tense start to the game with both sides having a fair share of the ball but few chances coming for either of the teams, instead, laying out the feelers and testing the opponents' resolve.

The biggest chance of the first half did go Boro's way, with Armani Maxwell feeding Lauren Robson down the channel, who looked to shoot but couldn't open up her body quick enough before a block came in.

Huddersfield were looking to put balls into the box from wide areas on plenty of occasions and did come close, connecting one of the crosses with a volley at the back post but the effort was wide of Cook's goal.

Both Maxwell and Robson had long-range efforts saved comfortably enough by the Huddersfield 'keeper and the sides went in to the interval firmly locked together at nil-nil.

The second half had Boro see more of the ball but struggle to create many clear-cut chances.

The home atmosphere built up and spurred Boro on to press harder and added to the feeling that something was going to fall Boro's way in the minutes remaining.

Boro stepped up their press and it began to cause massive problems for the Terriers as they would hit long, gifting Boro the ball and allowing Michael Mulhern's side to control the game at our pace.

The pressure also forced Huddersfield into rash challenges, one of which led to a Robson free-kick delivered into the area. Abby Towers pulled it across the box where Millie Bell and Maxwell would both scramble to keep it alive before Leanna Giles was Johnny-on-the-spot to hit the ball into the back of the net to give Boro a deserved lead.

Boro's second would come soon after, with Robson involved once more, letting the ball run just outside the box to Maxwell, who cut inside and shot with her right foot into the near post to double Boro's lead.

After conceding two in the space of just a few minutes Huddersfield did have their spell of possesion as they tried to get a goal back, but Boro's defence stayed resilient, sticking together to see off any attacks.

With two goals on the board, confidence was running through Boro's play, creating more chances to add to their lead, Jess Mett had the best of the bunch, dragging her shot just wide of the post as she escaped down the channel after winning the footrace.

Ellen Turnbull created a glorious chance as she put a great ball across the face of goal, but neither Robson or Giles could connect to add Boro's third before the final whistle was blown.

A win against a good side continues Boro Women's unbeaten start to the season as they head into a midweek fixture against York.
