Ruthless Boro climbed into the play-off places with a clinical performance at Ewood Park.

A blistering start saw Michael Carrick's side go 2-0 up inside eight minutes.

Tommy Conway fired us in front before Sam Iling-Junior doubled the lead with a deflected strike from the edge of the box.

Although no further goals were added to the tally, Boro were in control of proceedings to make it five wins from seven.

Boro put their hosts under pressure from the first whistle and just over 60 seconds in, we took the lead.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s ball found Conway, who took one touch to spin away from his defender before producing a tremendous left-foot finish.

It was a superb start from Carrick’s men, and a second goal arrived before the game had reached the eight-minute mark.

Jonny Howson brilliantly won the ball in the centre circle to start a Boro move which included Delano Burgzorg and Iheanacho. They combined to find Iling-Junior, and his strike from 20 yards took a deflection to wrongfoot Pears on its way into the net.

After such a frantic opening, goalmouth action proved more difficult to come by as the first half progressed, although Boro looked comfortable and continued to dominate possession.

Further sights of goal in the first 45 minutes were mainly restricted to efforts from distance with Iheanacho and Hayden Hackney both off-target with their attempts.

The home side attempted to respond after the break as they searched for a route back into the game.

Todd Cantwell pulled a shot wide in the early stages of the second half, but Boro effectively kept Rovers at bay.

Play became more stretched as the match reached its latter stages and there were opportunities for the Teessiders to stretch their advantage.

Conway and Iheanacho fired over and Aidan Morris had a powerful drive blocked, while Burgzorg narrowly failed to present Conway with an open goal.

Mark Travers was alert at the other end to deny substitute Yuki Ohashi with 15 minutes remaining, and that proved to be as close as Blackburn got.

Boro’s win was our fifth in seven games as we moved up to fifth ahead of Saturday’s fixtures.
