Boro goalkeeper Nathan Fisher was called into action early on at LNER Community Stadium, keeping out a left-foot drive from Connor Douglas.

Ollie Pickles headed over from close range for the hosts, with George McCormick also off-target with his head as Boro looked to provide a threat of their own.

Leeds almost scored on 18 minutes, but Douglas' strike crashed against the crossbar.

Fisher saved from Connor Ferguson as Boro continued to keep the home side at bay, and the Teessiders could have gone in front themselves before the break, only for Oliver Samuels' effort to go wide.

Boro started the second half in fine fashion and had two early chances to open the scoring.

Law McCabe sent one narrowly past the post and Stott was denied by the goalkeeper, but on 53 minutes the breakthrough arrived, with Finch finishing from close range.

Charlie Lennon saw a shot blocked while at the other end, Harvey Vincent fired wide from the left of the area.

Boro pressed on again in the closing stages and almost made the points safe on 88 minutes, with Bailey Palmer's strike well saved.

Stott had two opportunities in stoppage time but an even better one came in the third minute of it after Jacob Howard was penalised for a handball.

He made no mistake from the spot to secure a well-earned three points for Boro.
