Boro host West Brom on Tuesday evening in the Sky Bet Championship.
Ahead of the midweek clash, here is the lowdown on West Brom...
The background
The Baggies sit sixth in the table on 41 points, having won nine and drawn 14 of their 27 matches.
Their first win of the season came on the opening day against QPR. Josh Maja scored a hat-trick to secure a 3-1 victory.
The Baggies were knocked out of the FA Cup after suffering a heavy defeat against Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.
The visitors come into the game unbeaten in their last four league games, picking up a point against Stoke City in their most recent outing.
The manager
Hailing from Saltburn, Tony Mowbray was appointed the Baggies manager for his second spell on Friday. Mowbray tallied up 348 appearances for Boro between 1982 and 1991.
He became the captain of Boro at just 22 years old and was an instrumental part in guiding the club back to the top tier of English football.
After his playing career came to an end, Mowbray started his coaching career at Ipswich Town and had brief spells as caretaker manager while at the club.
He was appointed manager of Hibernian in 2004. In his time at Hibs, the team progressed to the latter stages of every domestic cup competition and made two appearances in European football.
In 2006 he started his first stint in charge of the Baggies. In the 2007/08 season, Mowbray guided Albion to the Championship title and also reached the FA Cup semi-final in the same campaign.
The following season, West Brom were relegated from the Premier League, and Mowbray left the club for Celtic shortly afterwards.
After a short spell in Glasgow, Mowbray returned to Teesside to take charge of Boro and stayed at the club for three years before parting ways.
He went on to manage Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland before joining Birmingham City in 2024. Due to medical reasons Mowbray had to step down from his role, with this job at Albion his first since leaving Birmingham.
Key players
Alex Mowatt, who had a loan spell at Boro previously, is one to watch out for on Tuesday evening. Mowatt plays a crucial role for the Baggies and has bagged three times this season, including a brace against Portsmouth.
Mikey Johnston has also been in fine form in recent games. He picked up two assists in their 3-1 win against Preston.
Jayson Molumby has been a constant for the Baggies this season, making 23 appearances.
Some more names to note this season have been Callum Styles, Darnell Furlong and Jed Wallace.
Past meetings
In our most recent meeting with West Brom, a Hayden Hackney goal was enough to claim all three points for Michael Carrick’s side at the Hawthorns.
