Ryan Giles is a Boro player for a second time after signing on a loan deal from Hull City.
Here’s everything you need to know about our new arrival…
- After being born in Telford, Shropshire, Giles became part of Wolverhampton Wanderers youth set-up aged eight.
- He progressed through the ranks at Molineux and won the club’s Academy Player of the Year award in the 2017/18 season.
- The left-back entered into senior contention in 2018, the same year he was loaned out to hometown club AFC Telford United, of National League North.
- His first appearances in senior football came at Telford, where he registered seven assists in nine games under the tutelage of future Luton Town boss Rob Edwards.
- Giles’ senior Wolves debut came on his 19th birthday against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.
- That would prove to be his only first-team appearance for Wanderers. He had loan spells with Shrewsbury Town, Coventry City, Rotherham United, Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers and Boro before departing permanently in the summer of 2023.
- He established himself as something of an assists king during his time at Cardiff, where he set up a league-best nine goals before being recalled.
- Giles was outstanding for Boro in the 2022/23 campaign, making 48 appearances in a season which saw us reach the Championship play-offs under the management of Michael Carrick.
- He was an instrumental part of Carrick’s side, registering 11 assists.
- His permanent move from Molineux saw him head to newly-promoted Premier League outfit Luton Town, where he was reunited with Edwards.
- After 14 appearances for the Hatters, he was loaned to Hull City last January and made the switch permanent in the summer.
- Giles, who was capped four times by England at Under-20s level, made 16 appearances this season for the Tigers.
- He is now primed for his second spell at the Riverside.
