Hailing from Walsall, Liam joined his boyhood club in their academy set-up and penned his first professional contract in 2012.

During a series of short-term loan moves, he enjoyed spells at Gresley Rovers, where they challenged for promotion from the Northern Premier League, and Chester, where he kept six consecutive clean sheets in the National League.

Prior to joining Chester, Liam made his debut for Walsall at home to Millwall in League One and established himself as the Saddler’s first-choice shot-stopper during the 2017/18 season.

His impressive performances earned him a new two-and-a-half-year deal at the Bescot Stadium in February 2018 and Liam was handed another extension in November 2019.

He joined Northampton Town in the summer of 2021, earning the Cobbler’s Player of the Year award in his debut season as well as being named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year.

Keeping the most clean sheets in the division, Northampton were cruelly denied a promotion to League One on the final day of the 2021/22 season as Bristol Rovers recorded a 7-0 win over Scunthorpe to pip them to the final automatic promotion spot.

Liam joined Boro in June 2022 after opting against signing a new deal at Sixfields.
